Leonardo school
The Leonardo school in Noordwijk is a school for highly-gifted children. The Leonardo foundation offers appropriate education for highly-gifted pupils, so that they can develop at their own pace and at their own level within a challenging learning environment. Children aged from 7 to 11 from the entire Noordwijk region can follow special lessons here.
Decos fully endorses the aim of the Leonardo foundation: “With the Leonardo system of education, we wish to enhance our society with highly educated and creative people who can make a significant contribution to the Dutch knowledge economy, but who can also make a positive contribution to the development of our society into a multicultural society based on their wide knowledge and tolerant attitude.”
Decos feels it is enormously important for young talent to be given a chance and is therefore delighted to support these children, all the more so as the Leonardo school does not receive any government funding and is dependent upon sponsoring, donations and subsidies. Decos not only provides financial support but is also personally involved with the Leonardo school, partly because several Decos employees send their children to school here.
‘Flight of imagination’ project
In February 2010, Decos will carry out a project with the children from the Leonardo school on the theme of ‘Dreaming’. In March, the director of Decos – Paul Veger – will travel to the Decos branch in India in his own airplane. In his Piper Malibu Jetprop, he will travel to the other side of the world with two pilot friends to celebrate the 10-year existence of Decos India in Pune. For him, this is a dream come true, and in this context Decos is inviting the children of the Leonardo school to create a drawing about their dreams. The pilots will take these drawings with them on the aircraft to give them to Indian children in Pune. On the return journey, they will bring back drawings by the Indian children, which will then be exhibited in Noordwijk.
Bringing together the minds of these children is Paul Veger's idea of sharing with the children his vision of a global future where minds dream and work together across the globe. “We think it is important to invest in the future, by connecting these young minds with each other. We are curious to see what happens if we bring these worlds together, and it is nice to see that we can learn from each other on every level. Besides, the simplicity and innocence of a child's dream will be food for thought for us all.”
In the autumn of 2010, we will continue our cooperation with the Leonardo school in the form of a project based on the new way of working.
